The ECB is scheduled to make its launch decision in 2026. A live pilot with real money runs from mid-2027. The earliest full launch window is 2029. Once the Digital Euro achieves legal tender status, most supervised PSPs in the eurozone will be required to distribute it as part of their payment services. Final obligations will be defined by the Digital Euro Regulation, currently moving through the legislative process.
